Ipswich writer Doug Stewart will discuss Manchester-by-the-Sea’s fascinating connections to the China Trade, highlighting local shipmasters, a spectacular shipwreck, and retired opium traders who built mansions here.

Summers by the Sea: Masconomo Hotel and the Resort Era

Kory Curcuru, from 1623 Studios, will be our speaker to kick
off our summer exhibit — Summers by the Sea: Masconomo
Hotel and the Resort Era in Manchester. He plans to discuss
the resort-era movement and summer life in MBTS, and show his documentaries on the Booths, Masconomo Hotel, and Lexington Avenue.

Sharksmouth: A Brief History of the Longfellow, Dana, and Curtis Families in Nineteenth-Century Manchester

Arthur Shurcliff, a direct descendant of the original Curtis family, will provide an intimate account of a fascinating Manchester family.
